Lisa M. Halvorson, MD
Session Chair: GLP-1s and PCOS/PMOS: The Latest Evidence
Dr. Halvorson’s overarching professional goal is the advancement of women’s health through work as a clinician, investigator, educator, and advocate. She received her MD from Johns Hopkins Medical School, completed a residency in OB/GYN at Beth Israel Hospital, obtained subspecialty training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) from Tufts/New England Medical Center, and completed two NIH-funded postdoctoral research fellowships in the Mass General-Brigham medical system.
After training, Dr. Halvorson remained in academia where she achieved the rank of Full Professor at the UT Southwestern Medical Center. As an NIH-funded Principal Investigator, she published extensively in the field of reproductive neuroendocrinology. She also had a clinical practice caring for couples experiencing infertility, often due to ovulatory disorders.
In 2014, she became inaugural Chief of the Gynecologic Health and Disease Branch (GHDB) in the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at NIH. In this capacity, she administered a $40 million research portfolio which supported basic and clinical research programs, small business grants, and career development programs in gynecology including PCOS.
Following 3 years as U.S. Senior Medical Director for pipeline products in women’s healthcare at Bayer Pharmaceuticals, she re-joined the NICHD/NIH as Chief of the REI Service. She continues to expand her role as a medical advisor for early-stage biomedical companies focused on PCOS and other aspects of women’s health.
