PCOS Symposium Goals

This important event will help women and girls affected by PCOS become proactive about their health and discover strategies and resources to overcome their symptoms and reduce their risk for life-threatening related diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most critical, underserved, under-diagnosed and underfunded conditions affecting women’s health. PCOS Symposium Speaker - Daniel Dumesic, MD

Dr. Dumesic is a clinician-scientist who treats women with infertility from various reproductive and metabolic disorders. He is one of the country’s leading PCOS researchers. He has served as Principal Investigator for several projects by providing extensive expertise in designing human clinical studies and procedures, diagnosing metabolic dysfunction, performing trans-vaginal ovarian ultrasonography, analyzing data and assessing clinical outcome measurements. Dr. Dumesic has also supervised the acquisition and analysis of research data compiled from these studies. With 24 years of experience in human studies, Dr. Dumesic has a demonstrated record of successful and productive research projects regarding mechanistic and clinical aspects of metabolic diseases and their negative impact on female reproduction, including more than 145 publications in reproductive endocrinology.

Dr. Azziz serves as founding President of Georgia Regents University, and CEO of the Georgia Regents Health System, a greater than $1.2 billion integrated and aligned enterprise. Dr. Azziz is also an internationally recognized clinical translational researcher, developing over the past 25 years an important program in androgen excess disorders research, funded by the NIH since 1988. Dr. Azziz is an internationally renowned leader in the field of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and reproductive endocrinology. He is the founder of the Androgen Excess and PCOS Society, an international scientific organization dedicated to promoting knowledge and original clinical research in every aspect of androgen excess disorders including PCOS.

PCOS Awareness Symposium Speaker - Stanley Korenman MD

Dr. Korenman is one of the country’s foremost experts on endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. He has co-authored numerous leading research studies on PCOS including Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: the Next Cardiovascular Dilemma in Women? and Patient Compliance: An Important Consideration in the Patient-Centered Treatment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
Dr. Korenman graduated from Princeton, Summa Cum Laude and attended medical school at Columbia, P&S. He completed his clinical training in Internal Medicine at Bellevue and Memorial Hospitals in New York. At present, Dr. Korenman is Associate Dean for Ethics with a special interest in research ethics and directs the Research Subject Advocacy program of the General Clinical Research Center. Prior to becoming the Associate Dean for Ethics, Dr. Korenman developed and directed the UCLA Medical Scientist Training Program and was Associate Dean for Educational Development and Chief of Endocrinology at the Center for the Health Sciences.

Dr. Chang is a board certified reproductive endocrinologist and obstetrician / gynecologist with a special focus on PCOS and the hormonal basis of women’s infertility. Dr. Chang has given many talks about her clinical research on fertility testing, PCOS and IVF. Dr. Chang is also co-author of book chapters on infertility, menstrual disturbance and PCOS. Dr. Chang has received numerous honors, including the Outstanding Resident Surgeon Award from the American Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, and has been recognized by her fellow physicians as a Southern California “Super Doctor” since 2010. Dr. Chang received her medical degree from the University of California, Davis. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Harvard Medical School and Clinical Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine. She is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese and French, with proficiency in medical Spanish.

Dr. Kalan has published extensively on topics including Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and IVF laboratory conditions, for which he won the University of Southern California’s prestigious Fellow Research Award in 2009. Dr Kalan is also a featured reproductive expert for national and international media including TLC’s program, I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant. Dr. Kalan received his medical degree from the Roslyn Franklin University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School and completed his residency in OB/GYN followed by a three year fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Southern California.
